Presentation of the study on the potential for leveraging green hydrogen in Tamaulipas
Mexico. - On January 28th, 2022, the study: "The potential for the production and use of green hydrogen in Tamaulipas" was presented, which was developed jointly by the GIZ projects Energy Transition Support Program in Mexico (TrEM) and the German-Mexican Energy Partnership (EP), in collaboration with the state of Tamaulipas through the Energy Commission of the State of Tamaulipas.
The objective of the event was to present the potential for production and adoption of green hydrogen in different economic sectors the state of Tamaulipas.
During the presentation of the study, the speakers highlighted that the greatest potential in renewable energy volume for Tamaulipas lies in solar photovoltaic energy, which would favor the theoretical scenario envisioned to produce up, from electrolysis, up to 800GW that would allow to obtain approximately 57.5 million tons of green hydrogen per year.
One of the points emphasized, was the possible applications of this sustainable energy vector, revealing that by the year 2050 the greatest demand in Tamaulipas for green hydrogen could be for the electrification of long-distance heavy-duty trucks.
The event ended with a series of recommendations and opportunities for a successful use and leverage from all sectors in Tamaulipas.
With its participation, the EP promotes dialogue with the public sector on green hydrogen to decarbonize the economy and enhance the energy transition at the subnational level.
