Virtual participation in the panel discussion: "Implementation of green hydrogen in Mexico"
Strengthening dialogues on the potentials of green hydrogen in Mexico
Mexico. - On Thursday, December 13th, 2021, the GIZ, through the German-Mexican Energy Partnership (EP) and the Program to Support the Energy Transition in Mexico (TrEM), together with the Mexican Hydrogen Society organized the panel discussion "Implementation of green hydrogen in Mexico" with the objective of amplifying the dialogues regarding joint actions to promote the successful use of this technology.
During the conversation, William Jensen, EP´s technical advisor, referred to its most recent study of the project, titled: "Green Hydrogen in Mexico: decarbonizing the economy", to discuss both the national and international context of this vector and the specific opportunities that arise for the private and public sectors.
Additionally, he highlighted the great collective and scientific effort that allowed finalizing this specialized study. Jensen said that the objective of the study is to disseminate and publish the potential of green hydrogen in Mexico, as it is a technology that allows achieving the climate goals agreed in the global agendas shared by both Mexico and Germany by mitigating carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.
Among the main advantages identified in Mexico for the implementation of this technology, is the high potential of photovoltaic solar energy generation at national level that can allow the production of green hydrogen in site and thus lower high transportation costs.
Lorena Espinosa, TrEM´s advisor, mentioned that some of the applications in which green hydrogen is projected to be more competitive are in heavy transport, mining and refining, replacing natural gas or gray hydrogen in different applications.
With this event, the EP strengthens the dialogue with the academic sector and enhances the decarbonization of the Mexican energy sector through the adoption of green hydrogen technologies.
